About the Project

The aim of this project is to allow First Nations communities in Southwestern Ontario the ability to actively participate in their own histories, while at the same time encouraging archaeologists to involve local and First Nation communities throughout their research and final results.

The ability to establish strong and respectful relationships between First Nation communities and archaeologists moves forward past the marginalization, misinterpretations, and exploitation that archaeology once held in First Nations history.

Goals of this project:

Promote healthy relationships between First Nation communities and archaeologists.

Provide information regarding archaeological activity and to help First Nation communities understand what archaeologists are and are not doing in regards to consultation archaeology.

Offers archaeologists a look into First Nations culture and heritage, traditional territories and present day locations, with hopes that future engagement can occur.

This project is in its very early stages and without doubt, the research conducted can be expanded on.
